# Before you begin

In this quickstart, you will create a knowledge base from an English research paper, ask a question, and verify the answer against the original source. Complete the following checks before you start.

| CloudSigma access | You can sign in and open AI Studio |
| A workspace | The workspace name appears in the workspace switcher |
| Permissions | You can create an import task and a knowledge base |
| Models and Credit | A chat model is available and the account has enough Credit |
| Sample document | The PDF is saved on your computer |

## 1. Sign in to CloudSigma

Open [CloudSigma](https://genai.mnl2.cloudsigma.com/) and sign in with your CloudSigma account. Select **AI Studio** from the product menu if it is not already open.

The workspace switcher in the top navigation shows the current workspace. Enter the workspace in which you want to create the tutorial resources. For workspace management, see [Workspaces](https://omnifabric.cloudsigma.com/docs/guides/ai-studio/resource-center/workspace.html.md).

## 2. Check your permissions

This quickstart imports a file into Catalog and creates a knowledge base. Confirm that you can access the following entries under **Data**:

- **Import Tasks** under **Data Connection**
- **Catalog** under **Resource Center**
- **Knowledge Base** under **Resource Center**

If a required entry or create action is unavailable, ask a workspace administrator to check your membership and role. ## 3. Confirm a model and Credit are available

The Q&A step requires a chat model. Available model names depend on the current workspace, so select one of the models shown in the interface when you reach that step.

Model and processing operations can consume Credit. Open **Billing Center** from the account menu and confirm that the account has an available balance. See [Credit and pricing](https://omnifabric.cloudsigma.com/docs/guides/billing/credit-and-pricing.html.md).

## 4. Download the sample document

Download the JMLR paper [*Scikit-learn: Machine Learning in Python*](https://jmlr.org/papers/volume12/pedregosa11a/pedregosa11a.pdf) and save it as `scikit-learn-machine-learning-in-python.pdf`.

The paper was published in 2011. Its software versions and figures describe the paper at that time rather than the current scikit-learn release.
